A labourer accused of wounding another man was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation is that on September 26 at Georgetown, Richie Singh unlawfully and maliciously wounded Harrilall Harridat so as to cause him actual bodily harm.
The labourer pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful and malicious wounding when it was read to him by the acting chief magistrate.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford in giving the facts of the case said that on the day in question the defendant who resides at the residence of the complainant was taunting a girl when he was admonished by Harridat to desist.
The accused, according to Telford, became angry at being cautioned about his behaviour by the virtual complainant and bit Harridat above his left eye.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant had been rescued from the streets by the complainant. According to Telford, Singh previously ate out of garbage bins and roamed the streets.
The magistrate remanded Singh to prison and ordered him to return to court today.
