Man accused of breaking into judge’s home granted $100,000 bail

A 37-year-old man accused of breaking into the home of a judge and stealing a quantity of items was yesterday granted his pretrial liberty in the sum of $100,000 when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on September 22 at Bel Air Park, Georgetown, Keith Allen of 336 East Ruimveldt broke and entered the dwelling house of Justice Brassington Reynolds and stole a quantity of electrical cable and a panel door valued $43,500.
Allen pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Stephen Telford in giving the facts of the case said that on the day in question, the defendant broke into the virtual complainant’s home and stole the items. According to the prosecutor, persons in the area notified the complainant that someone had broken into his house and Justice Reynolds sent his driver to investigate.

Upon arriving at the premises, Telford said, the driver heard strange sounds coming from the inside and on investigating, found the defendant in the house.

The prosecution in objecting to bail said that the accused has had previous brushes with the law and the court should take into consideration the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.  The virtual complainant was not present at court.

The prosecution’s application was denied and Allen was later admitted to bail in the sum of $100,000. He was ordered to return to court on October 18 for statements.
