Some time ago I attended the funeral of the mother of a workmate at Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice. It was my first visit to that area and that made me very curious and observant. One of the things that stuck in my mind until this day was the death announcement of a resident made public by way of a loudspeaker fitted on a moving vehicle.
Of course, it was also announced on the national radio station. That situation carried me back to my birthplace, Agricola Village, fifty years ago, where the same thing was done. It teaches me that those village leaders were interested in the affairs of the citizens and the village.
During one of our emancipation celebrations planned for Linden on August 2, our town was plunged into blackout from about 11 hrs to 23 hrs; the causes were made public is the Stabroek News, but many people do not read for various reasons, but those same people are fixed to their television sets. I want to believe our leaders in Linden Town are aware of that and should have had the wisdom to report on matters that affect Linden citizens. The citizens of Linden do not see or hear from our leaders unless matters affect them personally.
‘Under the Microscope’ is doing a good job in Linden, but he is criticized for exposing the ills of the town, the administration’s lack of ability to function effectively, and also because of his English. But his programmes are viewed weekly on LTV13 by many who are interested in the development of our dear Linden Town.
