Guyana Goldfields Inc presented a cheque to Batavia Village Deputy Toshao Bridget McWatt to support its Heritage Month activities as well as a community project chosen by residents.
A press release said the Region Seven village, along with Dog Point, Riversview, Karrau and Agatash hosted a pageant and several other competitions on Sunday as part of their Amerindian Heritage month celebrations. The programme included swimming, archery, cassava scraping as well as a piwari drinking race and a Tuma pot contest.
The company selected Batavia through the Community Development Council. The Canada-based mineral exploration company has been operating in Guyana since 1996.
