The Working People’s Alliance (WPA) joins the rest of the Caribbean family in mourning the death of calypsonian Arrow.
In a press release the WPA said Arrow took calypso to higher global heights with his pulsating tune ‘Hot Hot.’ Although his name became synonymous with that calypso, he recorded many other hits some rich with social commentary.
The release also said Arrow, a patriotic Montserratian, was also a committed regionalist who used his voice and the calypso to advance a Pan-Caribbean outlook. His performance in Trinidad during US President Barack Obama’s visit, despite his failing health, was testimony of his commitment to both the art-form and the cause of Caribbean nationhood.
The WPA extends condolences to Arrow’s family, his fellow Montserratians and the calypso fraternity on his passing.
With his passing, Caribbean popular culture has suffered a severe loss, the party said.
