Cabinet on Tuesday gave its “no objection” to five contracts valued at over $281 million for initiatives to be conducted under the purview of the Ministries of Home Affairs and Local Government, Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon said.
Luncheon said “no objection” was given to $112.7 million for the procurement of vehicles for the Guyana Police Force, Guyana Prison Service and community policing.
He said $96 million of this would be used to procure vehicles for the Guyana Police Force, $12.5 million for the Guyana Prison Service and $4.2 million for community policing.
Cabinet also gave the go ahead for $102.2 million to be used to purchase parachutes for the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), while consent was given for a further $33.8 million to be utilized for the construction of one pontoon for the GDF.
This pontoon, Luncheon said, would serve as a floating base in the Pomeroon River for the army.
Cabinet gave the go ahead too for $32.6 million to be given for the rehabilitation of two road projects in the Moruca sub-region in Region One. $17.2 million of this amount is for the rehabilitation of the road from the waterfront to the airstrip road and the remaining $15.4 million for the rehabilitation of a section of the school road.
