Benefited from assistance from Guyana Marketing Corporation

Dear Editor

I am a farmer in Naamryck Farming Group who has been planting ground provisions, plantain, papaw, watermelon and pineapple on a large scale for the past thirty-four years.

I have been reading in Stabroek News the articles written about the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC) and the Grow More Food campaign. I have been working with the GMC for the past fifteen years, supplying them with my produce. I was able to participate in seven of their trade shows to date, namely, two at Everest ground, one in Bartica, one in Uitvlugt ground and three at the stadium in Providence, the last one being Agrifest.

Owing to my participation in the local trade shows, I was able to attend a trade show in 2005 in Canada and be a part of the GMC booth promoting fruits and vegetables from Guyana, and seeking markets. Through the GMC I was able to go to San Diego, USA, in October 2006 to attend the Fresh Produce Summit with the group.

Through the GMC I have been linked to Beacon Foundation and Nigel’s Supermarket, and have been supplying them on a weekly basis since 2007. With GMC’s help I have also been supplying exporters. I keep in regular contact with GMC and its officers and I have benefited from the many training sessions to which they have invited me.

Editor, I want to let my fellow farmers know that GMC is there at all times and is willing to help farmers.

Yours faithfully,
Earasammy Govindasami
