A 44-year-old man who had a gramme of cannabis in his possession was on Tuesday fined $3,000 and ordered to do six months of community service when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
On September 27 at Georgetown, Wayne Layne had in his possession one gramme of cannabis. He admitted that he had the narcotic drug in his possession.
Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson who represented the man submitted to the court that his client would admit to the offence and throw himself at the mercy of the court.
After listening to the submissions of the attorney, the magistrate then ordered Layne to serve six months community service along with a $3,000 fine.
