BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Attacking openers Martin Nurse and William Perkins have been named in a 14-man Combined Campuses and Colleges squad for this month’s WICB Regional one-day championships.
The 25-year-old Nurse, surprisingly overlooked by Barbados selectors last week for the tournament that bowls off in Jamaica from October 14-24, was a late inclusion to the CCC trials.
A belligerent left-hander who has already played 20 first class matches, Nurse cemented his selection with a whirlwind 88 off 62 balls in a trial game on Tuesday.
Averaging 30 in regional one-dayers, Nurse will be a huge boost to the squad in the competition.
Perkins, meanwhile, has been included in the CCC line up after being also ignored by Trinidad and Tobago’s selectors.
The 23-year-old right-hander played one Twenty20 International for West Indies against the Australians two years ago but has slipped off the radar since.
Vincentian batsman Romel Currency will skipper the side that includes experienced player/coach Floyd Reifer.
CCC will do battle in Zone A with Jamaica, title holders Trinidad & Tobago and Windward Islands.
Squad: Romel Currency (captain), Omar Phillips, Miles Bascombe, William Perkins, Martin Nurse, Floyd Reifer, Ryan Wiggins, Nekoli Parris, Chadwick Walton, Ryan Austin, Kavesh Kantasingh, Shervon Penco, Borris Hutchinson, Gilford Moore.
