Dear Editor,
In July-August of this year I was involved in a work stint on the Essequibo Coast (the Anna Regina area). While socializing with the residents there I was approached by several young men, albeit, on the advice of their elders who knew of my past affiliation with GBTI. They all wanted to know why there was no loan programme for single men parents.
Most of them just wanted a small advance to get a ‘push start’ in their area of expertise. The range of equipment needed was grass/weed cutters, chainsaws, outboard engines, welding paraphernalia, computers and carpenters’ tools.
Of course they had their side of the saga of single male parents. I advised them to register with the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security and hopefully, some financial institution would recognize their plight and try to satisfy the needs, of these Men of Merit all over Guyana.
(The ‘Ms’ are intended to be upside down ‘Ws’ as in WOW – Women of Worth.)
Yours faithfully,
Roger A Bhulai
