Eric Sankar out-pedalled his competitors in the feature event of the fourth annual Max Pereira and Marlis Archer memorial cycle race yesterday around the outer circuit of the National Park.
Sankar carted off the top prize in the open category of the Continental Cycling Club organized and Alliance For Change (AFC)-Sponsored event after beating the field across the finish line in the 15-lap race.
Sankar also bagged three of the 10 Prime prizes up for grabs at the event.
Finishing behind Sankar was the ‘One-Armed Wonder’ Walter Grant Stewart, who captured two prime prizes.
Crossing the finish line third was Toney Simon (three Primes), followed by Ian Jackson, Chris Persaud (one Prime) and Enzo Matthews, who placed fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
Junior Niles was out of the top six, but took the other Prime prize on hand. In other races contested yesterday, Kallim Shaw finished ahead of second place finisher, Ian Jackson to win the Veteran’s under-45 year’s race, while Alan Persaud finished third.
The Veteran over-50 year’s category was won by Kirkwood Kellman, who left Aubrey Springer and Walter Isaacs in his trail in second and third place respectively.
Meanwhile, in the Juniors and Juveniles category, Kurt Larose took the first prize, limiting Paul DeNobrega to second place and Rajendra Sarju to third. The Upright category was won by Richard Charles, with Ozia Macaulay and Kester Croal in second and third respective while the lone female cyclist, Naiomi Singh captured the winning prize in the female category.
Toney Simon led the field across the finish line in the Category one, two, three and four seven-lap race, leaving second place finisher, Chris Persaud in his trail. Coming in behind Persaud was Ricky Kissoon, Junior Niles and Enzo Mathews in third, fourth and fifth respectively.
The youngsters also got into the cycling action in the BMX races, which saw Ethan Conway coming out on top of Antonio Samaroo in the BMX 6-9 years category.
The BMX 9-12 category was won by Christopher Griffith, who finished ahead of Deeraj Garbaran and Jaleel Jackson in second and third respectively, while Darius Ramsammy dominated the BMX 12-14 category to finish ahead of Fawaz Shamin, who placed second and Davenand Bissoon in third.
