Two women are among a quartet that held a taxi driver at gun point in Sophia early yesterday morning before escaping with cash and a handheld radio set.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud told Stabroek News that the women along with two men hired a car from a popular city taxi service to pick up someone in Sophia.
He said that after crossing over a bridge at the ‘Blacka’, the driver, Rupert Norton was held at gunpoint while the women relieved him on $43,000 and his radio set.
Meanwhile, Persaud said that the police are also investigating a robbery committed on a woman on the Mocha Arcadia access road around 23:15 hrs on Sunday.
He said the circumstances are suspicious based on the woman’s explanation. According to Persaud, the woman hired a taxi at Soesdyke to transport her to Georgetown but the car turned into the access road.
He said that according to the woman, the driver took some documents and two cellular phones from her handbag before ordering her out of the vehicle.
Before driving off, the driver returned the handbag.
