Dear Editor,
Mr Lionel Peters seems bent on misrepresenting the facts regarding the selection of presidential candidates (‘Janet Jagan announced she would be the presidential candidate in 1997’ SN, October 2). Since he was not a member of the leadership of the party and as such was not privy to what actually transpired, he writes from a position of ignorance of the facts.
Mr Peters should therefore defer to those who were actually present at the time of the deliberations and refrain from making wild and ill-founded statements about party leaders, in particular Mrs Jagan who is no longer around to defend the vile statements attributed to her.
I found it not only distasteful but unethical for Mr. Peters to comment on issues he is ill-prepared if not unqualified to comment on.
Yours faithfully,
Hydar Ally
