Dear Editor,
As far as could be surmised Guyanese of all ethnic groups rightfully believe that experience and preparedness are essential qualities when considering a presidential candidate. This is of paramount importance because at this critical time in the country’s developmental history, the people need a president whom they could trust, respect and support without reservation. They also want someone who could remove the obstacles preventing the country from attaining its true potential. Here it must be acknowledged that tremendous scope exists for the improvement of Guyana’s ranking in the United Nations Human Development Index. And without a doubt they want someone who will not support the status quo, and will work assiduously to change the present state of affairs in the country. Everyone lamented about the prevalence of crime, corruption and drugs in Guyana.
After all the complaints and verbalizing, it became evident that a set of criteria have to be met by the individual who is to become the next presidential candidate. The majority prefer Ralph Ramkarran because he has distinguished himself with his experience, trustworthiness and integrity.
Moreover, he has displayed the kind of prudence and wisdom acquired from the immense amount of practical experience he has acquired as a dedicated politician. Ralph’s experience is also associated with preparedness, exemplary service, and an untarnished image. It is rather surprising that people are either unaware of or uncertain about the national contributions of Moses and Donald, other than the fact that they are veteran politicians.
Yours faithfully,
V Chris Lakhan
