– Suriname drivers win in two categories
The top performer at last Sunday’s Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) drag race meet, Raymond Ally stated that he was surprised to emerge as the top driver at the South Dakota Circuit.
Ali made the revelation while speaking to Stabroek Sport yesterday via telephone.
“I didn’t expect to win on Sunday… the vehicle performed better than I expected,” Ally said.
Behind the wheel of his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Ally defeated Randel Daby, also in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution in the final race of the day to win the Unlimited Class or ‘E’ Class, which mainly consisted of the top performers from the other classes.
In the early stages of Sunday’s proceedings, Ally also got the better of Daby on two separate occasions.
“I am satisfied with the performance because they were a lot of fast cars out there,” Ally said.
Emerging as the winner of the ‘A’ Class was Rameez Mohamed, who powered his Honda Civic ahead of Naipaul Singh in his Toyota Tercel.
Winning the ‘B’ Class finals was Motilall Deodass behind his Starlet after he left Ike Langervine’s Honda Civic in his trail, while Jimmy Singh of Suriname took the cake in the ‘C’ Class in the driver’s seat of his Starlet.
Meanwhile, the ‘D’ Class champion was Yacoob Mohamed, also of Suriname.
