Demerara will be without its captain Ramnaresh Sarwan for the final of the El Dorado 50-over Inter-County tournament against Berbice at the Guyana National Stadium tomorrow.
According to President of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Bissondial Singh, Sarwan pulled out of tomorrow’s fixture due to personal reasons.
Leon Johnson will now lead the side since West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul has turned down the offer to lead the team which goes into tomorrow’s tournament unbeaten.
Demerara will also be without opening batsman Rajendra Chandrika, who will be engaged with the Sagicor High Performance Centre for an upcoming tournament. Former national opener Shemroy Barrington and Jamal Hinckson have received the selectors’ nod to replace Sarwan and Chandrika.
It is not yet known what the final 11 would look like but defending champions Berbice will be aiming to break the momentum of the unbeaten Demerara team and retain their title.
Berbice will be led by West Indies A team player Assad Fudadin with Royston Crandon as his deputy.
Demerara are currently riding on a high after easily disposing of Essequibo on Wednesday at Wakenaam Community Centre ground. The Essequibians have not won a game in this year’s tournament.
