Campbellville Secondary yesterday completed their inter-house track events at the Carifesta Complex ground, Carifesta Avenue and the school’s athletes are expected to participate in the East Georgetown District No.12 inter-district events which start today.
And the battle was on between the school’s ‘A’ and ‘B’ Houses for the leading position and while points are still to be tallied, an intermediate points count showed ‘A’ House at the pinnacle with 339 points while ‘B’ House was in pursuit with 326 points. At that time ‘C’ House stood in third position with 153 points, ‘E’ House trailed in fourth with 77 points and ‘D’ House was in the rear with 72 points.
And in spite of lagging, ‘B’ House had the distinction of having the champion boy of the day, Errol Welcome who dominated the sprint events taking first place in the 100m, 200m and 400m as well as the 800m boys under-18 event. He was second in the under-20 100m. Welcome gracefully claimed his 100m with full authority and let it be known that he was number one as he came down the track well ahead of second place finisher ‘A’ House’s Orlando Simmons. Simmons fought for his second place and left Welcome’s housemate Dwayne Toney in third spot. ‘E’ House was able to grab some points off a weary performance by fourth place finisher Orlando Terner.
In the 200m, with Welcome laying full claim to first place, Simmons squeezed another second place, once again preceding Toney. With Simmons missing in action in the 400m, Toney took full advantage and grabbed the second place and Mark Celaire of ‘E’ House came in third. Celaire was able to graduate to a second place position when he also took part in the 800m.However, it was Charwayne McPherson who had Welcome settling for a third when he won the boys’ under-20 100m. McPherson also won the 200m.
And over in the under-16 level non-participation in the 800m was all that impeded ‘B’ House’s Kijana Wharton from replicating Welcome’s under-18 feat, having dominated the 100m, 200m and 400m events.
Coming in second behind Wharton in the 400m, ‘B’ House’s Joshua Willliams came back with a first place position in the 800m event.
And on the female side Shountel Lord, also from ‘B’ House took the first place position in the girls’ under-16 100m and 200m events.
The under-18 girls’ 100m and 400m were won by ‘A’ House’s Sueann Bynoe. The 200m was won by ‘B’ House’s Maltica McAllister who came second in the 400m. And in a battle of the “Sueanns”, Bynoe’s teammate Sueann Brown won the girls’ under-20 200m to leave Bynoe in second place.
The 5,000m open male event was won by Shelton George while Teaidy Mollyneau won the girls’ open 3,000m event.
