Guyana’s selectors have included new players Jonathan Foo, Anthony Bramble, Keon Joseph and Richard Ramdeen in the 14-man squad for the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) one-day championship which bowls off next week in Jamaica.
Ramnaresh Sarwan has been named as skipper of the side while Shivnarine Chanderpaul has also been named in the side. The surprising omissions from the team however have been first strength wicketkeeper Derwin Christian, who was replaced by Bramble, Travis Dowlin and Sewnarine Chattergoon.
Bramble, who hails from Berbice, is also a useful middle order batsman and all eyes will be on him today in the final of the El Dorado 50-Over Inter-County tournament at the Guyana National Stadium from 13:00 hours against Demerara.
Foo will have another opportunity to get his feet wet with the seniors in the 50-over game while Ramdeen, a stylish opening batsman from Berbice, would have been considered after scoring a century in the Inter-County first round against Essequibo and his lone knock of 33 in South Africa in the Champions League. Ramdeen has replaced left handed Chattergoon, who has had a horrid time with the bat for quite some time now. The 22-year-old Ramdeen is a former West Under-19 batsman Former West Indies ODI player Leon Johnson has found favour once again with the national selectors after making some good scores on the local scene.
West Indies under-19 pacer Joseph got the selectors’ nod and will be spearheading the attack along with Esuan Crandon and allrounder Christopher Barnwell. There was no room for Demerara medium pacer Kellon Carmichael, who has been picking up wickets regularly in every form of the game.
Joseph, played a single first class match for Guyana in the regional championship earlier this year
