Plus-size fashion can be sexy, sophisticated or simple to fit the woman’s style, but according Sonia Noel, too many plus-size women in the country have been led to believe otherwise.
In the run-up to Guyana Fashion Weekend (GFW) 2010 the creative team has announced the launch of the Plus Size Fashion Club which is set for tomorrow at the Sidewalk Café.
“I am excited about the launch of this Plus Size Fashion Club because plus size women need to be fashion forward like everyone else and have easy access to everything they desire,” Sonia Noel was quoted as saying in a press release from the GFW committee.
The release said that a fashion show featuring plus size models and tea party are also scheduled for the launch. Outfits would be on sale at the event.
Speaking on the objective of the club, Noel said, that will provide an outlet for plus-size women, “a place to be themselves”. She said the fashion statements will appeal to a wide cross-section of tastes, personalities and body types.
Women will be able to interact with each other and share experiences, Sonia said, noting that the interactive club will include tips on make-up, fashion and health among other things. Plus-size women will be able to source information on everything from under garments to swimsuits; casual, business and evening wear.
Sonia said the GFW committee has already decided on a full complement of plus size models that will hit the runway when the event is held on October 30 and 31 at the Pegasus Hotel.
GFW is offering four shows this year since 40 collections are to be unveiled; one show at 4 pm and another at 8 pm on both nights at the same venue.
GFW officially launched a month of activities with a church service last Sunday at Life Improvement Centre with Pastor Harris.
Sonia said that anyone interested in the club can call 226-3099 for additional information. Tickets for tomorrow’s launch are available at Sidewalk Cafe, Nigel’s Supermarket and Silhouette at Barr Street Kitty.
