Kingston, Jamaica – Due to persistent rains in Jamaica over the past two weeks the West Indies Cricket Board, on the advice of the Jamaica Cricket Association, has moved the first two matches of the WICB Regional 50 Over Tournament scheduled for Chedwin Park to Kensington Park in Kingston.
The two matches that will now be played at Kensington Park are: Combined Campuses & Colleges versus Trinidad & Tobago on October 14 and the Sagicor High Performance Centre versus Guyana match the following day.
Two other matches (Leeward Islands versus Sagicor HPC and Jamaica versus CCC) are scheduled for Chedwin Park on October 17th and 18th. After an assessment later this week a decision will be taken on whether the facility will be suitably ready to host those matches.
Preparations at Sabina Park and the Trelawny Multi Purpose Stadium were also affected by the adverse weather but these grounds have underground drainage systems which have aided significantly.
Chedwin Park is located in an area where there was an extreme level of rainfall over the past two weeks. It has been determined that certain portions of the ground have been so severely affected that it will not be possible for the areas to be adequately prepared for cricket as early as October 14th and 15th hence the need to change venues for the first two matches.
Since the start of the adverse weather conditions, the JCA has been closely monitoring the situation and kept the WICB fully briefed on all developments.
