BANGALORE, (Reuters) – India left Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and five other frontline players out of the squad for the three-match one-day series against Australia.
Tendulkar, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, fast bowler Zaheeer Khan and left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha have been rested, BCCI secretary N Srinivasan said in a statement yesterday.
“Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Ishant Sharma are undergoing treatment for minor injuries and have therefore not been included,” Srinivasan said.
Gambhir and Sharma are nursing knee injuries that ruled them out of the current second test.
Shikhar Dhawan is expected to partner Murali Vijay at the top of the order.
Australia have also named a weakened squad led by Michael Clarke, with regular captain Ricky Ponting, fast bowler Mitchell Johnson and all-rounder Shane Watson all left out.
The one day series starts on Oct. 17 in Kochi.
Indian squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Saurabh Tiwary, R. Ashwin, Praveen Kumar, Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel, Vinay Kumar, Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit Sharma.
