The Ministry of Health is partnering with pageant coordinators, fashion designers and other persons in this field to heighten breast and cervical cancer awareness this month.
Minister within the Ministry of Health Dr Bheri Ramsaran said the ministry is collaborating with coordinator of Guyana Fashion Weekend Sonia Noel to facilitate two workshops for fashion designers, models, and pageantry coordinators and beauty salon owners.
According to a Government Information Agency press release the two-day workshops, which end today, are being hosted at Ramphal House and the ministry’s boardroom. They aimed at training participants to become cancer awareness ambassadors. The sessions included lectures and self examination demonstrations by the Director of Regional Health Services Dr Narine Singh, Health Promotion Officer Sabella Yusuf, Nurse Patricia Singh and Dr Marcia Paltoo. The participants are also being trained to promote the use of Visual Inspection using Acetic Acid (VIA) for the early detection and treatment of cervical cancer.
