With commanding wins in the 100m and 200m events of the girls under-16 category, nationals athlete Kimberley McIntyre was the highlight of the day at the Wales Community Centre on Wednesday at one of the Inter-schools Championships of the West Demerara district.
Representing Patentia Secondary School, McIntyre cleared another hurdle to the schools national championships when she advanced to the Inter-Branch Championships to be held on October 21 at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground.
In both races McIntyre beat her teammate Ieasha Parris.
However, Parris finally got her moment to excel in the 400m when Patentia Secondary once again took both top spots with Allana Lindo coming in second place.
Also registering consecutive wins in the 100m and 200m events was Devin Europe.
The 400m was won by Keon Paul with a distinguished lead ahead of second place finisher Sylvester Clarke, who had a tough battle and barely edged out Joshua Phillips who came third.
And in the junior categories, Patentia Primary registered outstanding performances through athletes Oneal Levan and Shaquel Mason in the boys under-12 category, and Cecillia Bailey in the girls events.
Bailey opened with a second place position in the 200m after being defeated by Denecia George, but graduated to a first place take when she ran the 1000m to win from Jennessa Europe of Patentia Secondary.
However, Europe had sweet revenge in the 400m where she settled Bailey to a second place position.
