-promise repairs
The Guyana Police Force issued an apology to Michelle Basdeo last night and called the operation at her Farm East Bank Demerara home on Monday “a mistake”.
The police also said in the press release that repairs were done to the home; Basdeo had pointed to damages at her home while noting the violations of the police invasion. Michelle Basdeo, a private sector employee who lives at Lot 36, Bougainvillea Park, Farm, East Bank Demerara with her four-year-old son, had related her ordeal to his newspaper. On the day in question, she left her home intact around 7:30 am and travelled to the city with son who was ill.
Basdeo subsequently received a call about police at her home and after rushing back she discovered that the police had forced their way in.
The shaken woman pointed doors at the house which were broken while a piece of grill material from the front door was cut; there are also damages to a mesh.
The woman said she could not decipher how the police entered her home without a search warrant and when no one was at home. She said the officers did not say who or what they were looking for.
