Ron Motilall is the new leader of the Guyana Chess Federation Closed junior national chess championships following fifth round action on Wednesday at the Keishar’s Sports Club.
Going into the fifth round on three points, Motilall gained a walkover from Carlos Petterson to move to four points while previous leader Sham Khan lost to Suhai Feng to remain in second position on three and one half points.
Feng is one of three players locked on three points with the others being defending champion Cecil Cox who defeated Rashad Hussain and Raan Motilall who gained a walkover from Ryan Mc Kay.
Tournament Director Irshad Mohammed said Petterson showed up a full one and half hours after the matches had commenced.
The tournament will wrap up today with the final two rounds at Olympic House.
The tournament is still open and anyone of the top five players can win the tournament. Out of the reckoning however are Hussain on two points, Petterson on one and a half and Mc Kay who is yet to score a point.
