Former national opening batsman Krishna Arjune made a welcome return to form slamming a century as the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) reached 319 – 6 declared on the first day of their two-day Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) First Division Heroes Cup competition at the Eve Leary ground yesterday.
Arjune fashioned an authoritative innings of 156 before he was adjudged leg before wicket to Jason Heyliger.
He received support from Shaun De Souza, who scored 89 before be too was leg before wicket to Trevor Benn.
Heyliger ended with 3-62 from 19.5 overs while there was a wicket each for Benn and Andre Stoll.
Police, in reply, reached 46 – 2 after 12 overs with
Heyliger, 18 and Shameer Fazul, 14 not out. Play continues today at the same venue.
And, over at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground in Queenstown, fast bowler Jeremiah Harris blasted 77 to lead the Guyana Defence Force to 325-9 declared.
Delon Heyliger, 52, Trevon Garraway, 44, Shemroy Barrington 32 and Terry Fraser and Travis Blyden with 22 runs each were the principal scorers.
Bowling for DCC, Trevor Griffith bagged 4-65 and Dennis Squires 2-59. At the close DCC were 60-2 with Cohen Ishmond 27 and Griffith 21 back in the pavilion.
