All three of the boxers who left Guyana to participate in the recent Commonwealth Games held in India have absconded in the US on their return trip to Guyana.
President of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association Steve Ninvalle confirmed today that the boxers – Dexter Jordon, Clevon Rock and Devon Botswain – have absconded. He described the actions of the three as “unpatriotic, selfish and disgraceful”.
None of the boxers performed creditably at the recent games with Botswain and Rock losing their first fights and Jordon winning only one fight.
The actions of the three are reminiscent of the footballers who several years ago had also opted to live in the US illegally after they had visited on official business. Observers have now said that this recent incident would continue to make it difficult for sports men and women to acquire visas.
