The Lima water treatment plant in Region Two, constructed at a cost of $400M, is providing potable water to residents from Queenstown to Walton Hall with a five million litre production capacity per day, the Government Information Agency said in a press release.
In addition to the Lima plant, the Guyana Water Inc. has spearheaded the construction of two other major projects. The Vergenoegen plant which is in Region Three supplies residents of De Kinderen to St. Lawrence with 4,000 upgraded service connections and a production capacity of six million litres of water per day. There is also the Cotton Tree plant in Region Five which is serving residents of Inverness to Shieldstown with 3,000 upgraded service connections and a production capacity of four million litres of water per day.
Additionally, two other plants have been constructed at Sophia and Central Ruimveldt serving about 41,000 residents with a capacity to produce up to 12 million litres of purified water per day.
The release said also that the plants are constructed under the Water Sector Consolidation Project which is funded by a US$11.3M grant from the World Bank.
