Three men were on Friday charged with using a gun to rob a woman of a smart phone and cash when they appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation is that on October 11, at Georgetown, being armed with a gun, Andy Adams, Jermaine Turpit and Kevin Tubedore robbed Orett Hopkinson of a blackberry valued $50,000 and $2,000 in cash.
The trio was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of robbery-under-arms when it was read by the magistrate.
Attorney Patrice Henry, who represented Adams, 34, of 2028 Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, made an application for his client to be admitted to reasonable bail. He told the court that his client had an unblemished record, a fixed place of abode, posed no risk of flight and had been cooperating with the police. Henry noted too that the offence was bailable. He also charged that Adams was charged without being placed on an identification parade.
Prosecutor Lionel Harvey had no objection to the bail application. Adams, who is a taxi driver and father of four, was later granted his pre-trial liberty in the sum of $150,000. Harvey, however, objected to the other two defendants being placed on bail and Turpit and Tubedore were subsequently remanded to prison.
No details of the case were entertained by the magistrate, who cautioned the parties involved that the specifics of the matter will be dealt with at the trial.
The defendants were all ordered to return to court on November 12.
