Guyana’s girls’ number one junior player Shawna Gentle yesterday picked up where she left off on Saturday as the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) Nigel’s Supermarket Junior Classic Tennis Tournament continued at the Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel’s courts.
Gentle along with Krystal Sukra and Aruna Ramrattan registered wins in the girls’ 18 years and under category yesterday.
Gentle was anything but…gentle… in routing Tanya Niamatalli 4-0, 4-0 to advance out of her group.
And in Group `B’ of the girls’ 18 years and under category, Gabrielle Blackman eliminated herself from the tournament after she failed to register a win.
Blackman yesterday lost both of matches to Sukra and Ramrattan by 0-4, 0-4 margins.
And, Aretta Dey, beaten by Gentle on Saturday, suffered another defeat this time at the hands of Niamatalli, who won a tough three setter, 2 – 4, 5 – 3, 7 – 3 victory.
In the girls’ 14 years and under category, Kristy Lopes and Afruica Gentle also won their matches yesterday.
Afruica Gentle made easy work of Aneisa Grandison whom she defeated 4-2, 4-1 while Lopes defeated Rachel Bacchus 4 – 0, 4 – 1.
In the boys’ 18 years and under category Daniel Lopes also had an easy time defeating Neon Barry 4 – 0, 4 – 0 while Benedict Sukra, defeated Jadah Stephaney 4 – 0, 4 – 2 in the 18 year and under category and David Rose 4 – 0, 4 – 1 in the 14 years and under category.
And, Mindat Lallbeharry overpowered Ryan
McKay 2 -4, 4 – 2, 7 – 3, in the 18 years and under category while Khalif Gobin defeated Gerad Budram 4 – 0, 4 – 0 and then followed up with a 4 – 1, 4 – 2 win over Nomechandra Persaud in the 14 years and under division.
