Richard Ishmael’s Keon Morris and Andrew Chung Joseph helped their school to a comfortable nine-wicket win over Queen’s College in the Ministry of Education/Guyana Cricket Board/National Sports Commission/Guyana Teachers’ Union 40-over tournament at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground yesterday.
Morris led with bowling figures of 4-21 (6) and ensured that Queen’s College were bowled out for 94 in 24 overs after the match was limited to 30 overs due to overnight showers.
Daniel Waaldijk (2-4), Besham Singh (2-13) and Besham Singh (2-28) provided adequate support in the all-round team effort.
When QC batted after winning the toss, they lost wickets regularly as the Richard Ishmael bowlers maintained a consistent and tight line, which eventually brought about rash shots from the batsmen. Zachary Hamer was the only batsman to reach 20 but he was soon dismissed for 25 after a fighting innings.
Vickram Ramkissoon supported with 16 while Stephen Andrews contributed nine.
In reply Richard Ishmael, led by 42 from Chung, who, along with Neraj Nagamootoo put together a half century partnership for the first wicket, put their team in the driver’s seat.
After Chung was dismissed, Nagamootoo and Sunil Singh took the score to 96-1 from 17 overs. Nagamootoo was undefeated on 28 while Singh was not out on 17. Jayadeo Mana was the wicket taker for QC.
