The Georgetown Reading and Research Centre is hosting its first book sale by auction tomorrow at its Water Street location.
Director of the Centre, Rupert Hopkinson said customers can select books from its entire inventory of about 200,000 and make an offer to the cashier, according to a press release. The Centre’s own offer begins at 15% off the marked price but through the process of bidding customers can get some books at a discount rate as high as 70%.
Hopkinson noted that the sale is primarily to raise funds to set up a children’s library in December. It is also a part of the Centre’s mission to encourage more people to read. By year end the Centre will be positioned to allow children from the nursery level to borrow books. The director also said about 50,000 new books are expected by month-end.
The book auction ends on November 30.
