Dear Editor,
The decision by the Guyanese Common-wealth boxers who allegedly absconded in the USA is one that they will have to live with, whatever consequences befall them. I honestly don’t believe that life will be all that glittery for them during these trying times of recesssion in the USA especially since they will be ‘identity-less.’
At the same time, it was reported that any in-transit person has up to 29 days to remain in the country, so we should wait and see if they will return to Guyana on or before the 29 days are up.
The immediate family members now have a responsibility to do what is necessary to give the best guidance.
I make a special appeal to the Canadian, UK and USA consular offices not to penalise innocent future sports’ ambassadors of Guyana who visit their offices. If the boxers refuse to return, they do not represent the mass of the nation.
Yours faithfully,
T Pemberton
