GTTA draws $1.25M in sponsorship funding

The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) yesterday received sponsorship to the tune of $1,250,000 which will be allocated towards various projects.

According to a GTTA release yesterday, the first  project will be to facilitate the travel of a table tennis team to participate in the Cecil James Open Competition, which will be hosted by the D’Abadie Table Tennis Club over the weekend in Trinidad and Tobago.

Other projects will include sending a table tennis team to Suriname, an inter-school and corporation competition and a champions’ tournament, which will include veterans. These programmes are expected to be executed by the GTTA by the end of the year.

According to the release, President of the GTTA, Commissioner of Police Henry Greene received the donations in his conference room at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary from Brian Tiwari of BK International Quarries Division and other sponsors. It was noted that the company handed over $500,000.

Other large contributions also came from Deonarine Sugrim of Agriparts, who also donated $500,000 while Mohadeo Umraow of Umraow and Sons donated $250,000.

According to the release, BK Quarries Inc representative, Edgar Bazillio, told the gathering that his company was pleased to make the contribution to the GTTA. He also noted that the company will pledge its “wholehearted support towards the development of table tennis in Guyana.”

Bazilio added, “Having the Commissioner in the leadership role will augur well towards the success of the GTTA.” He also wished the Guyana team participating in this weekend’s tournament in T&T success.

Greene in response thanked the donors for supporting his association while heaping praise on the business community, “which has contributed immensely towards the workings of the GTTA within recent times.”

Witnessing the presentation were GTTA Vice President Harold Hopkinson who also received the travel tickets for members of the team traveling to the twin island republic, Pradeep Balram, Assistant Commissioner of Police George Vyphuis, GTTA General Secretary, Godfrey Munroe Bazillio and Linden, Johnson.
