Following reports emanating from the Stabroek Market area and surrounding public transportation parks, Police in Georgetown have launched an operation on a twenty- four hour basis aimed at clearing it of “undesirables” plying the area with the intent to pounce on unsuspecting citizens.
A release from the police said some of the perpetrators have even shifted to shops pretending to be customers.
On October 21, 2010, eighteen persons were arrested for various offences including Gaming, Larceny from the Person and Robbery under Arms. Five of them were arraigned for Gaming before Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court One and were each fined five thousand dollars or three months in prison. The others are still being processed.
