KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – World and Olympic sprint relay gold medalist Aleen Bailey is the 2010 winner of the Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence.
The award caters to persons who have displayed a high level of integrity, national pride, dedication, decorum, humility and discipline, both on and off the field.
They must also have previously represented Jamaica at the senior level. Bailey, who was pleasantly surprised by the decision, was presented with her award by Prime Minister Bruce Golding, at the award function held at the Jamaica Pegasus on Wednesday night. She pocketed JAM$500 000 (US$ 5 917) along with the crystal trophy.
“I am trying to figure out if I should laugh or cry because I am having mixed emotions,” said Bailey, who celebrates her 31st birthday next month.
Other nominees included Veronica Campbell-Brown, the two-time Olympic 200 metres champion; Jomo Pitterson, the International Master chess champion, and motor racing champion David Summerbell Jr.
