Bandits robbed a fishing crew at LBI early Saturday morning as they were preparing to go out to sea, but the police responded promptly and caught them.
Police said that two persons are in custody following the robbery which occurred around 4:30 am at LBI, East Coast Demerara.
It was reported that Usman Khan, 17, of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, together with his three-member crew, was preparing to go to sea when the suspects armed with a gun and a cutlass came up with a boat propelled by wind.
The men held up the crew and ordered them to transfer their two 48Hp Yamaha outboard engines and rations into their boat, which they did and the men then sailed away in a western direction. The robbery was reported and police and ranks from the Sparendaam responded.
Police said in a press release that the ranks arrested the bandits at the Ogle foreshore minus one of the engines. The men are expected to appear in court shortly.
