Guyana will be establishing an embassy in Kuwait in an effort to further strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries, Foreign Affairs Minister Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett announced yesterday.
Speaking during a press conference, Rodrigues-Birkett said the country will soon name an ambassador to occupy the embassy.
She declined to name the persons being considered for the post.
Regarding the establishment of the embassy, the minister said Kuwait will assist in providing accommodation for the embassy. The minister also suggested that the facility will also reach out to other countries, while responding to a question.
She declined to disclose the name of the proposed ambassador to Kuwait but said that it has been already submitted to that country’s government for approval. Kuwait is to assist Guyana with providing accommodation for the embassy which would also serve as a base to reach out to other countries in that region.
In July, Kuwait Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammed Al Ahmed Al-Jaber Al Sabah and other high profile government officials paid a one-day visit to Guyana, where six technical cooperation agreements were signed between the two countries.
Earlier in the year President Jagdeo travelled to Kuwait and signed two cooperation agreements and one Memorandum of Under-standing.
Agreements on bolstering cultural ties encouraging bilateral investments were signed.
