President Bharrat Jagdeo will meet with the retrenched Barama Company Limited workers on Monday in an attempt to offer them transitional assistance.
“I’m going to do something at least transitionally,” the President said this evening while delivering the feature address at the 6th Triennial Delegates Congress of the Guyana Labour Union (GLU) at the Princess Hotel. The GLU represents most of the laid-off workers.
On October 15, 274 of the company’s employees were formally laid off with a promise of severance pay amid a stunning turn of events caused by damage to a vital water boiler on October 4.
