NAIROBI, (Reuters) – Two high profile Kenyan officials faced corruption charges on Tuesday, in a further sign the long-promised war on graft in east Africa’s biggest economy is finally gathering momentum.
Foreign Affairs Minister Moses Wetangula also came under scathing attack from some parliamentarians in a heated debate after investigators recommended he quit and stand trial for the loss of $14 million in a deal to buy a new embassy in Japan.
A vote on whether he should be forced to go, as recommended by the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations, did not take place because the assembly ran out of time. Officials said the debate would resume today.
Wetangula has said he is innocent of the charges.
