PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Russell Latapy has fortified Trinidad & Tobago’s men’s national team with the selection of four overseas-based players for the second round of the Digicel Caribbean Cup to be staged from November 2 to 6 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium here.
The Soca Warriors coach has included the Puerto Rico Islanders’ pair of Kendall Jagdeosingh and Keon Daniel, as well as DC United’s Julius James and Yohance Marshall of Los Angeles Galaxy in a 20-member squad.
The 24-year-old Jagdeosingh joined the Islanders three years ago, and has been having a steady season for the club in the United States Soccer Federation’s Division 2 competition. He’s played only twice for T&T.
Daniel, aged 23, has scored twice this season for the Islanders in 14 matches, and has eight goals for T&T in 37 appearances over the last three years.
James is a 26-year-old defender, and possesses extraordinary aerial ability, and is very composed in front of goal at either end of the field.
Marshall, a 24-year-old defender, was recalled to the Galaxy, after a loan spell with the Austin Aztex, and should add more stability to the T&T defence.
The Warriors will be hamstrung with the absence of speedy striker Cornell Glen. He has been sidelined with a leg injury, meaning Latapy will have to examine his options up-front.
The Warriors have moved into a live-in camp at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, minus the four overseas players, who are due to arrive later this week for the tournament.
T&T face St. Vincent & the Grenadines in their opening Group-F match next Tuesday to be followed by matches against Guyana two days later, and Haiti on November 6.
From the four-team tournament, the top two will qualify for the eight-team finals in Martinique from November 26 to December 5.
