Tiffany Carto and Letitia Myles yesterday produced the first photo-finish of the South Georgetown Inter-Schools Champion of Champions track and field championships at the Eve Leary ground.
A mere second separated the two athletes in the 200m girls U-18 event which was won by Myles in 25 seconds.
The two athletes began their rivalry in the 100m event which Dolphin Secondary School’s Carto won the event and with it bragging rights.
Brimming with the need for vengeance, South Ruimveldt’s Myles experienced that bliss when she overcame Carto in the 400m, edged home in a time of 1:02.8s, 4.2 seconds ahead of Carto.
With the two athletes standing at one win each it was all down to the 200m to break the tie.
Carto took the lead at the shot of the gun but Myles quickly matched Carto’s pace and race was on.
They went neck and neck to the final 100m, and, in the fading light, Myles began to edge ahead.
A dip at the finish line and it was victory for Myles one second ahead of Carto.
It was an impressive end to a well contested race and augurs well for the upcoming Nationals Championships.
In the girls under-14 200m, North Multilateral Secondary’s Shonnet Freeman fell while in second place in the 200m mere yards from the finish
line.
The race was won by East Ruimveldt’s Tiana Mitchell who was second to Freeman in the 100m event with Octovia Austin second.
Charlestown Secondary’s Stephon James won the boys U-18 100m and 400m events while
Tisha Grimes won the girls U-18 400m and 800m events.
Unofficially Central High School leads the points’ standings from North Ruimveldt Secondary with Dolphin and Tucville Secondary Schools third and fourth respectively.
