A man who admitted to signing someone else’s name on a declaration form for a new passport was yesterday ordered to pay a fine of $20,000 together with a three-month prison sentence when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Dexter Morris accepted that on January 4 at the Central Immigration and Passport Office he made a false declaration for the purpose of securing a new passport by signing that he is Leon Andrew Clarkston, knowing same to be false.
When given a chance to respond, the defendant told the court that he is Guyanese by birth and has been residing in Barbados for sometime and had returned to have his passport renewed but was not familiar with the process for renewal.
“Did you, or did you not sign that you are Leon Andrew Clarkston on the declaration form?” the magistrate asked the defendant.
Morris responded yes.
He was later fined $20,000 and sentenced to three months imprisonment.
