Majeed strokes another century but Masters still lose

For the third weekend in a row, softball cricketer Hakim Majeed stroked a century, but this still could not lead the Success Masters Softball Cricket team to a win last Sunday when they played in a series of the General Marine Female and Male Over-40 Softball Competition.

According to a press release, Majeed on Sunday became the first Guyanese softball cricketer in history to score three consecutive centuries. Majeed began his unrivalled feat three Sundays ago when his 134 runs spearheaded Success to a 106-runs win over the Savage Softball Cricket team.

Majeed then followed up with another on October 17 at Eve Leary, before coming to his third with an even one hundred runs made on Sunday at the GCC Bourda Ground, as Floodlights racked up an 85-run victory over Success.

Batting first, Floodlights were led by a top scoring 78 from Richard Persaud, which was backed by ample support off 48 runs from Toolsie Sahadeo, 35 runs from Ricky Deonarine and 29 runs from Ramesh. Floodlights then reached 229 – 6 from their full 25 overs, while the bowling for the Success Masters was headed by Haffeez Samad who took four wickets for 30 runs. The other two wickets came down at the hands of Raffman Alli for 34 runs.The Masters in their reply found themselves bowled out for 145 runs off 18.1 overs, despite Majeed’s century. For Floodlights the bowling was led by Dharam Persaud who took three wickets for 36 runs and Mike Singh who also took three wickets but for 37 runs.

Meanwhile, in other matches of the day Shattaville defeated the Mahaica Masters by 9 wickets. Mahaica opened the batting and were all out for 94, with a top scoring 24 from Nickey Seron, while Vincent Pompey lashed in 22 runs. Bowling for Shattaville, Rampersaud Sankar took four wickets for 23 runs and Randolph Pereira took three wickets for 15 runs. In reply, Shattaville made 95 – 2 off 19.3 overs. Linden MacCoy with 47 not out, top scored.

Enterprise overpowered the Defenders of Parika on a 7 wickets victory. Off 13 overs the Defenders were dismissed for 68 runs. With a four-wicket take for nine runs, Nandalall Seebarran was Enterprise’s top bowler, and Vishwanauth Gobin followed with three wickets for 16 runs. And Enterprise easily soared to their target ending the game in 9.4 overs. Seemangal Yadram made 22 runs for Enterprise, while the Defenders bowling was led by Dhanpaul Birball who took all three of the wickets for just two runs.

Industry Super Kings defeated Savage by 36 runs. Industry got 150 for 9 off 25 overs Hardat Singh 41 and Ryan Bodhoo 38. Bowling for Savage, Barlow Lakeram took 3 for 48 and Hardat Narine 3 for 32. Savage in reply made 114 for 10 in 25 overs. Barlow Lakeram top scored with 37 and Phalim Mohamed 22. Bowling for Industry, Motilall Churnadatt and Rupert Basdeo took 3 for 24 each.

In the female games of the day the Wellwoman constructed a 22-runs victory over the 4R Lioness. From the full ten overs, Wellwoman made 91 – 2 to which the Lioness replied with 69 – 4 off their 10 overs.

And after making it to 59 – 4 off 10 overs the Ogle Angels lost to the Lusignan Street Warriors who replied with 60 – 1 off only five overs. Top scorers for Lusignan were Melissa Cummings (24 not out) and Kavita Yadram (21 not out).

At the Skeldon Sports Complex, Crabwood Creek Heroines defeated Corriverton Queens by 6 wickets. Corriverton Queens made 81 all out with Gizel Batson 26 and Paula Williams 23. Crabwood Creek in reply made 85 for 4 off 8.2 overs. Yollanda Penuex 33 and Reona Penuex 25 were the top scores for CWC. Bowling for Corriverton Queens Christine Matherson took 3 for 8.
At the NDC Fundraising Tournament at Good Fortuin, 4R Lioness defeated Trophy Stall Angels in a match that was decided by a bowl out.
