The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) in collaboration with the National Sports Commission (NSC) stated in a release yesterday that its Digicel-sponsored national Mini Cadet, Cadet and Junior Teams Table Tennis Tournament is scheduled to be contested from November 5-7 at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
According to the release the team’s table tennis tournament will involve a number of schools and is organized as part of the GTTA and NSC’s effort to promote table tennis countrywide.“The Tournament is aimed at achieving the following objectives: Fostering Camaraderie among students, Promotion/Creation of healthy lifestyle through sport (Table Tennis), Opportunity for individuals to participate in recreational activities, Promoting the basic objectives of the GTTA/NSC by having more players actively participate in table tennis activities both recreational and competitively” the release read.
Further, the release noted the GTTA/NSC will coordinate tournament fixtures and will provide umpires, tables, and balls and organizers would like to meet with representatives of schools on Wednesday, November 3 at 17:00 hours at the National Gymnasium.
The tournament will be contested by teams in the following categories: 18 years and under (3 boys & 1 girl), 15 years and under (3 boys & 1 girl), 13 years and under (3 boys & 1 girl) and will run on a round robin basis. The top four teams in each division will advance to contest the semi – finals.
The release added that coaching programmes to ensure that schools participate fully will be conducted before the start of the Tournament.
Meanwhile, prizes in the form of trophies and medals for the first three finishers in each category, the most outstanding players (Male and Female), most improved players (Male and Female), the best dressed school and the most discipline school.
