A city businessman and licenced firearm holder was last night shot in the leg after he was confronted by armed bandits, one of whom he shot dead, Divisional Commander Balram Persaud has confirmed.
Persaud told Stabroek News this morning that the dead bandit identified as Drepaul Persaud was a known car thief in the West Demerara area. The business man, Ryan Boodhoo is hospitalized at the Georgetown Hospital, he said.
Investigations have so far revealed that Boodhoo and his wife were walking towards their Blankenburg Housing Scheme home around 9 pm when two gunmen came up and attempted to rob them, shooting the businessman in the leg. The businessman opened fired on the men fatally wounding Persaud while the second bandit escaped.
Investigations are continuing into the incident, the commander said.
