The Guyana Police Force will soon be outfitted with new vehicles, a new training centre and cubicles following Cabinet’s approval of three contracts at last Tuesday’s meeting.
According to Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr Roger Luncheon, Cabinet offered its no objections to three contracts which will see the “supply and installation of separation walls” (cubicles) for the force to the tune of $16.8M, the purchasing of vehicles at a cost of $51.5M and the construction of a training facility which will cost $158.4M. Construction of the training facility has already commenced at the corner of Camp and Young Streets.
Meanwhile, no objections were also offered to contracts that would result in the “construction of core homes in four lots totaling about one hundred million dollars.”
The homes, which according to Dr Luncheon, is the provision of housing accommodation for the “extremely indigent”, will be provided at West Minister, West Bank Demerara and two contracts was awarded to the tune of $19.5M and $21.5M. Similar homes will also be built at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, at a cost of $17.2M while at Bath, Berbice a contract for $21.9M would be awarded to build homes.
Another contract to the tune of $20.3M will be awarded to build homes at Lethem, Region Nine.
