Inquest ordered into death of boy left in car

A Coroner’s Inquest has been ordered into the death of two-year-old Radain Wilson, who died of sunstroke after he was forgotten in a car for over three hours.

This was confirmed by Deputy Commander of Police ‘B’ Division Christopher Griffith during a brief interview with Stabroek News yesterday. The inquest is expected to commence shortly.

Mayfield Babb-Fraser, 55, forgot Radain in her AT 212 Toyota Carina motorcar, PLL 3761 for over three hours, was taken into police custody but was later released on $50,000 station bail.

On Monday, Radain left home with his mother, Corletta Wilson, a teacher at Belladrum Primary School and got a ride in the car. The mother arrived at her school first and reminded Babb-Fraser, whom she knew very well, to drop her son at his school in the next village.

Babb-Fraser, a former headmistress who is engaged in a voluntary counselling and testing programme, apparently forgot about the child and passed his school. She drove to the Rosignol Health Centre, parked in the compound and closed up the car, still without realizing that the child was in the backseat.

A post-mortem examination performed on the remains of the boy showed that he died of sunstroke.
