(Jamaica Observer) Finance Minister Audley Shaw last night congratulated Jamaican economist Dr Warren Smith on his election as the fifth president of the Caribbean Development Bank.
Dr Smith is the first Jamaican to hold the top post in the regional bank’s 40-year history.
Shaw also thanked outgoing President Dr Compton Bourne on his years of fine service to the bank and to the region.
Dr Smith won unanimous support from the CDB’s 22 governors and shareholders on the third round of voting. He emerged the winner amongst a field of three candidates, including outgoing president Dr Compton Bourne. A Guyanese national, the 67-year-old Dr Bourne just completed two five-year terms in office. The other candidate was Barbadian economist Dr Winston Cox.
