Dear Editor,
It was heart-wrenching to read about the demise of infant Radain Wilson, which was purely accidental. This situation happens every year in North America; the most recent case in Toronto this summer was when an infant was left in a closed car on a hot day in a shopping mall parking lot. When a child is left with someone who does not routinely care for the child, that person can easily forget there is a child in the car simply by being distracted by the pressures of life. This death is one too many, but there is a way to prevent further happenings like this. When a child is being transported in the back seat, the driver should leave something there that she must take with her, either beside the child or on the floor, eg, a mobile/cell phone, handbag, papers, files, etc. If she leaves without it, she will soon realize this and come rushing back to the car. My deepest condolences to the parents and others affected by this tragedy.
Yours faithfully,
Walter Dhanraj
